A Few Tips for a Successful Shipment
Companies that ship high volumes of LTL freight normally have a deeper understanding of the importance of packaging, labeling and handling of their product. The occasional shipper may find this information very useful.
Packaging
Package your product properly to insure its safe transportation and handling. Remember that your product will be handled several times along the way by people and machines such as forklifts and other equipment. If your product is palletized, use only pallets that are compatible with the size of the packages. If they overhang you are exposing the product to potential damage. If you have to stack different boxes, place the stronger and heavier boxes at the bottom making sure that the stack is firm and stable. You may want to consider using edge protectors (corner boards) and bands to secure the shipment as a stable unit.
Labeling
Properly labeling a shipment is very important not only during transportation but also to help your customer or the recipient of the merchandise identify, sort and handle the product at their end. There are also many types of labels that can contribute to the safe handling of your product, such as "Fragile", "Handle With Care", "This Side Up", "Do Not Break Down", "Top Load Only", "Top Heavy", "Do Not Stack" and many others. Scheduling
Although in many cases we can do a same day pick up, we recommend that you plan your shipment ahead of time. Traffic, weather conditions and other factors beyond our control may affect our ability to perform what you requested. So, planning your shipments in advance is the best policy .
Communication
Good communication is essential. When you schedule a pick up or arrange for a delivery, be sure to inform your hours of operation. If your company stops shipping and receiving during lunch hours, be sure to provide that information at the time you schedule your shipments.
